Former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu could return to active politics if the party declares him its chief ministerial candidate in Punjab, his wife and party leader, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, said on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters after meeting Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Navjot Kaur Sidhu said they do not have money to give to any party but can transform Punjab into a \u201cgolden state”.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe always speak for Punjab and Punjabiyat\u2026but do not have Rs 500 crore which we can give to sit in chief minister\u2019s chair,” she was quoted as saying by news agency PTI<\/em>. When asked if anybody demanded money from them, she said nobody has demanded but the \u201cone who gives a suitcase of Rs 500 crore he becomes the CM”.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf any party gives him that power so that he can improve Punjab. We do not have money to give it to any party but we will give results and we will turn Punjab into a golden state,” she said.<\/p>\n

Infighting In Punjab Congress<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Navjot Kaur Sidhu also alleged \u201cinfighting” within the Congress unit, saying there were five leaders aspiring for the CM position who would not let Sidhu contest. She affirmed that her husband was \u201cstrongly attached” with the Congress and party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut with so much infighting, I do not feel that they will let Navjot Sidhu be promoted as there are already five CMs faces and they are hell bent on defeating the Congress. If they (high command) understand this then it is a different matter,” she said.<\/p>\n

Navjot Singh Sidhu, a former cricketer, has not been active in Congress for several months and did not campaign in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He made a comeback to cricket commentary in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season and launched his YouTube channel in April to share insights on cricket, lifestyle and other topics.<\/p>\n

At that time, when Sidhu was asked about returning to active politics, he had then said time will tell, stating that he did politics for people\u2019s welfare and it was never a business for him. Speculation over his return to politics is expected to persist as Punjab prepares for its Assembly polls in 2027.<\/p>\n
