IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is facing significant operational disruptions, leading to widespread flight cancellations and delays across the country. Around 250-300 flights were cancelled over the past two days, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.<\/p>\n

On social media, people posted pictures of long queues and huge crowds waiting for their flights to take off.<\/p>\n

A user wrote, \u201cMy Indigo Flight from Pune to Delhi is delayed by more than 3.5 hours. There are many flyers who have been waiting at the airport for more than 12 hours.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has also expressed concerns over IndiGo Airlines’ operational crisis, citing massive passenger distress and calling it a “shame”.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the airline attributed the disruptions to a combination of factors, including minor technical glitches, winter schedule changes, adverse weather, heavy airport congestion, and updated crew rostering rules, reported News18.<\/p>\n

\u201cA multitude of unforeseen operational challenges, including minor technology glitches, schedule changes linked to the winter season, adverse weather conditions, increased congestion in the aviation system, and the implementation of updated crew rostering rules (Flight Duty Time Limitations) had a negative compounding impact on our operations in a way that was not feasible to be anticipated,\u201d the airline said.<\/p>\n

IndiGo has made calibrated adjustments to its schedules over the next 48 hours to restore stability, offering affected passengers alternate flights or refunds.<\/p>\n

Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation into the widespread disruptions and asked IndiGo to present facts for the issue and plans to mitigate the ongoing delays and cancellations.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe DGCA is currently investigating the situation and evaluating measures along with the airline, to reduce cancellations and delays, to minimise inconvenience being caused to passengers\u2026 Indigo has been asked to report to DGCA, Headquarters, to present the facts leading to the current situation along with plans to mitigate the ongoing delays & cancellations,\u201d the DGCA said.<\/p>\n

According to the aviation regulator, IndiGo cancelled 1,232 flights in November, with 755 attributed to new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms, which came into effect on November 1. The airline’s on-time performance fell to 67.7% in November from 84.1% in October, as per the DGCA.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
