West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has told the state government that if estranged TMC MLA Humayun Kabir\u2019s statements are creating tension and risking a law-and-order problem, then why shouldn\u2019t he be arrested?<\/p>\n

This came after Kabir sparked a fresh row on Tuesday as he doubled down on building a mosque modelled on the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad district and warned that NH-34 would be under \u201cMuslim control” on December 6.<\/p>\n

Kabir\u2019s Remarks Intensify Political Tensions<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kabir, the Beldanga MLA who has been signalling a break from the TMC for months and has spoken of launching his own political outfit, escalated matters during a media interaction. He accused the Murshidabad administration of being an \u201cRSS agent” and warned officials not to \u201cplay with fire” if they tried to stop his programme.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said a year ago I will lay the foundation of the Babri Masjid in Beldanga. Why is your skin burning? Are you being run by the BJP?” he said. He also announced, \u201cNH-34 will remain under my control, under the control of the Muslims.”<\/p>\n

He further added, \u201cI will not break peace, but if anyone disrupts a peaceful programme, I am ready to respond. Bring thousands of police and fire, if you can.”<\/p>\n

His remarks come just months before the Assembly elections, making the political climate even more sensitive.<\/p>\n

TMC Tries To Distance Itself<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Trinamool Congress moved quickly to distance itself from Kabir\u2019s statements. Siddiqullah Chowdhury, state minister and Bengal president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, said a \u201cnew emotional atmosphere” was being created to push Bengal into a \u201cdangerous climate.”<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cSomeone has provoked him. I do not see how this benefits the Muslims.”<\/p>\n

TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee downplayed Kabir\u2019s relevance, saying, \u201cPeople of West Bengal trust Mamata Banerjee. Who says what does not matter. He has no importance.”<\/p>\n

Despite this, Kabir\u2019s continued presence in the party, even after earlier show-cause notices, is being viewed as a lapse in discipline at a critical time.<\/p>\n

Opposition Slams Both TMC And Kabir<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking to PTI last week, Kabir repeated his plan, saying, \u201cYes, I will lay the foundation stone. The masjid will be bigger and inspired by the original structure.”<\/p>\n

The BJP accused the ruling party of enabling the situation. State president Samik Bhattacharya said, \u201cThe TMC is pushing Bengal towards chaos. These announcements are meant to provoke and polarise.”<\/p>\n

The CPI(M) also criticised the political fluidity in Bengal. Leader Saikat Giri said the situation showed how leaders frequently switch sides and ideologies for political gain.<\/p>\n
