ChatGPT is good at a lot of things but it can’t tell you the time<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n

ChatGPT and other AI chatbots are capable of advising users about health issues, scroll through the internet for more data but they can\u2019t tell the time. Yes, this has been pointed out in multiple reports, which suggests AI can only do what people train them for and it seems telling What\u2019s the time is not part of that mandate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This means if you don\u2019t train ChatGPT to understand time as we know and use it, it cannot help you with the answer for that particular prompt. When you ask ChatGPT to tell the time, it suggests you check the clock on your phone, laptop or any other device.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Matter Of Time<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ChatGPT and Claude seem to be the main culprits with the time question. But Google and even Apple seem to have trained their assistants to give you the answer and the right time. OpenAI was quizzed about this puzzling limitations, and the company has been quoted by The Verge in a report saying, \u201cThe models powering ChatGPT don\u2019t have built-in access to the current time, so for up-to-date facts ChatGPT sometimes needs to call search to pull in the latest information.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The reason given by OpenAI seems strange especially when its rivals have built that time keeping ability within their AI models. We hope the company plans to have ChatGPT capable of telling the time, and it should happen soon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is fascinating to see how AI actually behaves within its own realm where the time of our understanding is not available. Yes, you can link the system to let AI gather the data and learn about it. But it isn\u2019t the worst thing that AI has some limits and people can continue using their own senses to make it work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

AI chatbots are getting smarter and even replacing humans as the industry invests billions into making technology work, evolve and get powerful. Not able to tell time feels like a small issue but that should be working soon. <\/span><\/p>\n
