The West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday submitted a formal complaint to the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging serious irregularities in the process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state.<\/p>\n

As the political fervour rises ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP have repeatedly sparred over the SIR exercise. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has repeatedly questioned the SIR, alleging that it will disenfranchise genuine voters in the state.<\/p>\n

In its letter to the ECI, the BJP raised a strong protest against \u201cunprecedented irregularities” in the SIR exercise and sought immediate corrective measures, warning that the exercise would be fundamentally compromised if swift action is not taken.<\/p>\n

Spike In Digitisation<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The BJP claimed there was an unusual spike in digitisation entries, which rose from 5.5 crore to 6.75 crore in just three days (October 26-28). The party described this as statistically impossible and alleged that this surge was not carried out by the block-level officers (BLOs), but the IPAC, an organisation the BJP claimed was close to TMC.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a direct attack on the neutrality and sanctity of the electoral roll. If outsourced political agencies are allowed to handle SIR work, the entire exercise becomes illegitimate,” The BJP said, demanding an immediate audit of the digitisation process and suspending the use of any data digitised through unauthorised means.<\/p>\n

Failure To Delete Dead Voters<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The BJP also alleged that despite repeated alerts and documented complaints from district units, dead voters were not being systemically deleted, which resulted in an inflated voter roll that was inaccurate and open to exploitation. The party demanded a district-wise special drive to ensure immediate deletion of all verified dead voters.<\/p>\n

Irregularly Appointed EROs<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The party said Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) below SDO or equivalent levels were being allowed to function in the state despite specific objections, which has led to poor-quality verification, compromised neutrality and breakdown of SIR protocol. It called on the ECI to immediately replace all irregularly appointed EROs.<\/p>\n

Posting Of Super Time Scale DMs\/DEOs<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The BJP states that the posting of senior DMs\/DEOs in certain districts violates established norms and affects operational neutrality. They seek urgent rectification of such postings. \u201cThese issues are not minor procedural lapses, they strike at the very core of electoral integrity,” it said.<\/p>\n

The BJP called on the poll body to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Initiate a time-bound audit of the digitisation work conducted between October 26-28.<\/li>\n
  2. Immediate statewide special drive to delete dead voters with daily progress reporting.<\/li>\n
  3. Replace all irregularly appointed EROs within a fixed deadline<\/li>\n
  4. Review and rectify the posting of Super Time Scale DMs as DEOs forthwith.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \u201cThese issues demand urgent and decisive intervention. Any delay will permanently undermine the credibility of the SIR process and severely damage public trust in the fairness of WBLA 2026.”<\/p>\n
