Former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who chipped in with a half-century himself, stood up in ovation to laud Kohli’s feat in a moment of adulation.<\/h2>\n

Indian batter Virat Kohli delivered a remarkable performance against South Africa in Ranchi on Sunday, achieving his 52nd international ODI century in spectacular style.<\/p>\n

Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who contributed a half-century himself, stood up to applaud Kohli\u2019s achievement in a moment of admiration.<\/p>\n

South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl first. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings for the hosts, but Jaiswal was soon dismissed by Nandre Burger. However, Kohli and Rohit built an impressive 136-run partnership for the second wicket. Rohit scored 57 runs off 51 balls before being dismissed by Marco Jansen, while Kohli continued to reach his century.<\/p>\n

Ruturaj Gaikwad added 8 runs to the side\u2019s total in 14 deliveries before Ottniel Baartman send him back to the dugout, before the Proea bowler doubled his tally with the scalp of Washington Sundar for 13 off 19 balls.<\/p>\n

KL Rahul accompanied Kohli as the wicketkeeper batter went on to score a half-century after Kohli was dismissed for 135 off 120 balls by Burger.<\/p>\n

Marco Jansen sent Rahul back to the dugout for 60 off 56 deliveries, before Corbin Bosch got the wicket of star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for 32 off 20 in the final over of the first innings, before Arshdeep Singh was removed for a duck in the penultimate delivery of the Indian innings.<\/p>\n

India went on to post a score of 349\/8 and the Proteas require 350 runs to win the opening ODI fixture of the five-match series.<\/p>\n
