Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return for India in the first ODI of a three-match series against South Africa on Sunday as stand-in ODI skipper KL Rahul accepted that the senior pair bring a sense of calm to the dressin room.<\/p>\n

Both Rohit and Kohli now play only one international format. With India scheduled for just six ODIs in the next two months \u2014 three against South Africa and three against New Zealand in January \u2014 the stakes are high for two of Indian cricket\u2019s modern icons. Their performance in these games could significantly impact their chances for the 2027 ODI World Cup. This series may not decide their World Cup futures but marks the start of a crucial trial, which could prolong their illustrious careers or push them closer to retirement.<\/p>\n

\u2018Their Presence And Experience\u2019<\/h2>\n

With both Kohli and Rohit Sharma returning, Rahul highlighted their crucial influence in the dressing room, seeking to regain momentum after the Test series defeat.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir importance at any point is huge. To have senior players in the team obviously makes the dressing room feel a lot more confident,” Rahul was quoted as saying at the pre-match press conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving their presence and experience helps out a lot of players in the dressing room and helps out the team. So, we are really happy that they are here,” he added.<\/p>\n

When asked about Virat Kohli\u2019s intense training session, where he emphasised strike rotation, Rahul stressed its importance in the 50-over format.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn ODIs, singles are as important as boundaries. Virat is a master at that. We all keep learning from him. He\u2019s excited to be back and his presence is always invaluable,” KL said.<\/p>\n

KL mentioned he had not yet examined the Ranchi pitch but expected a good batting surface based on previous ODIs there.<\/p>\n

\u201cHistorically, this is a good pitch for runs. We\u2019ll assess it tomorrow and choose the team that gives us the best chance to win,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWinning is our main focus. We aim to put the past week behind us and concentrate on tomorrow\u2019s game to deliver a collective performance,” he added.<\/p>\n
