Kerala BJP President and former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Wednesday remarked that Muslims were not voting for the party, in response to a question about the lack of Muslim representation in the Union Cabinet.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a press conference in Kerala, Chandrasekhar said the BJP were not receiving support from the Muslim community, and that the Cabinet had no Muslim ministers because there were no Muslim MPs.<\/p>\n

He defended the party\u2019s position, pointing to the BJP\u2019s Muslim representatives in the past like Ex-Ministers Shahnawaz Hussain and Mohsin Abbas Naqvi. \u201cThat trust has not been there. What is the reason for that? We have not hurt anyone,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat if I ask, why are Muslims not voting for us? Why are they voting for Congress? Is there any benefit to voting for Congress? What can we do if the community is not supporting us?” he said, adding that there were several Muslim candidates for the BJP in local body elections.<\/p>\n

His remarks came as Kerala local body elections are set to be held in two phases on December 9 and 11, where nearly 1,200 local bodies of the state will go for polling. The counting for the local elections will be held on December 13, 2025. Mattannur municipality in Kannur District will not go to polls this time as the elections are due in September 2027.<\/p>\n

Chandrasekhar further said the BJP\u2019s aim in the local body elections is not a change of government, but a change in the style of governance. He said 95% of development in Kerala is due to the Modi government, while criticising the LDF government\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n

\u201cKerala is not developing. If it was developing, why would students go outside for education? Kerala is carrying out development by borrowing money. Funds are being reallocated and spent,” he was quoted as saying in local media.<\/p>\n
