India\u2019s head coach Gautam Gambhir has hit back at his critics by saying that he is the same guy who won the ICC Champions Trophy and Asia Cup as the head coach. Gambhir is facing a lot of criticism after India suffered a humiliating defeat by 408 runs against South Africa in Guwahati. Since Gambhir\u2019s appointment as head coach in July 2024, India have lost five out of nine home Tests.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be honest, there is no hindsight in sport. Whatever decisions we\u2019ve taken, we\u2019ve taken in the best interest of the team. We absolutely believe they were the right decisions to get the job done for the country and for the team. It is up to the BCCI to decide (on his future). I said in my first press conference as head coach: Indian cricket is important; I\u2019m not important. I\u2019ll say the same thing again,” Gambhir said during the post-match presser.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople can keep forgetting, but I\u2019m the same guy who got results in England as well. With a young team. And I\u2019m sure you guys will forget very soon because a lot of people keep talking about New Zealand. And I\u2019m the same guy who won the Champions Trophy and the Asia Cup as well. Yes, this is a team with less experience, and I\u2019ve said before \u2014 they need to keep learning. They\u2019re doing everything possible to turn the tide,” he added.<\/p>\n
