Aiden Markram entered his name in the history books on Wednesday (November 26) by becoming the first South African cricketer to take seven catches in a Test match as an outfielder. In the ongoing second India-South Africa Test match at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, Markram completed five catches, and in the morning session of the fifth day\u2019s play, he completed two more catches to take his tally of catches to 7 in the ongoing match.<\/p>\n

Before Markram, the record of taking the most catches in a Test match for South Africa was in the name of Bert Vogler. In January 1910 against England in Durban, Vogler completed six catches. His tally of six catches was equalled by Bruce Mitchell in 1931 against Australia, Jacques Kallis against Sri Lanka in January 2012, Graeme Smith against Australia at WACA (Perth) in November-December 2012 and David Bedingham vs Pakistan in January 2025.<\/p>\n

The overall record of taking the most catches in a Test match as an outfielder is in the name of India\u2019s Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane completed eight catches against Sri Lanka in Galle during the match played from August 12 to 15 in 2015. In that fixture, he completed three catches in the first innings and five in the second.<\/p>\n
