The Indian women\u2019s team is set to play a five-match home T20I series against Sri Lanka in late December 2025. According to a RevSportz<\/em> report, the games are likely to be held between December 21 and 30, with Vizag hosting two matches and Trivandrum staging the remaining three.<\/p>\n

It\u2019ll mark a return to the field for Harmanpreet Kaur\u2019s team for the first time since being crowned the World Champions. They beat South Africa in the final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai to clinch a first women\u2019s World Cup for India.<\/p>\n

This series will replace a rubber against Bangladesh comprising three ODIs and three T20Is scheduled for December \u2014 part of the ICC\u2019s Future Tours Programme \u2014 which will no longer take place, reportedly, due to \u2018prevailing diplomatic tensions between the two governments.\u2019<\/p>\n

Tensions between India and Bangladesh have escalated in the wake of political upheaval in Bangladesh. Dhaka\u2019s demand for the return of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, currently in exile in India, has added to the strain, alongside India\u2019s new curbs on Bangladeshi exports, concerns over China\u2019s growing influence in the region, and long-running disputes over river water sharing.<\/p>\n

The situation worsened further this week after a Bangladesh tribunal sentenced Hasina to death.<\/p>\n

A similar men\u2019s series between India and Bangladesh was to be played in August after the Anderson\u2013Tendulkar Trophy in England, but was indefinitely postponed. News18 CricketNext<\/em> had reported that the delay was linked to diplomatic strains, though both boards avoided mentioning politics in their joint statement, instead promising \u201crevised dates,” which are still awaited.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams,” the release read. \u201cThe BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course,” it added.<\/p>\n
