Pakistan\u2019s former Test captain Rashid Latif has been questioned by the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCA) after alleging that sponsorship deals with betting companies influenced selection decisions made by the country\u2019s cricket board.<\/p>\n

A source close to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated that a complaint was lodged with the NCCA against Rashid due to these allegations, rather than his criticism of the team\u2019s performances.<\/p>\n

\u201cClaiming that Muhammad Rizwan was removed as ODI captain because he opposed surrogate advertising sponsorship deals with betting companies, or indirectly accusing board officials of pursuing such deals, is a serious issue,” the source said.<\/p>\n

The NCCA confirmed that the complaint against Rashid was filed by Syed Ali Rizvi, a member of the PCB legal department.<\/p>\n

In December 2023, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) banned the broadcast and distribution of surrogate advertising by betting and gambling companies across all electronic media outlets in the country.<\/p>\n

Subsequently, Federal Minister for Information Attauullah Tarar reiterated the government\u2019s zero-tolerance policy towards such advertisements.<\/p>\n

The PEMRA ban effectively halted the influx of surrogate advertising by betting and gambling companies in Pakistan cricket, particularly in the Pakistan Super League, where several franchises had eagerly signed team logo contracts with these companies.<\/p>\n

Rashid has repeatedly claimed that Rizwan and Babar Azam were targeted because they refused to wear surrogate advertising logos.<\/p>\n
