On this day in 2009, Sachin Tendulkar created history by becoming the first player to reach 30,000 international runs during the India-Sri Lanka Test in Ahmedabad.<\/h2>\n

On This Day In 2009: <\/strong>Playing against Sri Lanka in the first Test of the series in 2009, Sachin Tendulkar achieved a historic feat. In that fixture, which took place at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad, Tendulkar became the first player to breach the 30,000-run mark in international cricket.<\/p>\n

His 35th run in the innings back then meant that the 12,777 Test runs, 17,178 ODI runs and 10 from the solitary T20I appearance, aggregated for the record. The Master Blaster scripted this remarkable record on this day (November 20) in 2009.<\/p>\n

Sachin Tendulkar, eventually, finished his glorious international cricket career having scored 34,357 runs across the three formats of the game. Tendulkar also holds the record for scoring the most runs in international cricket.<\/p>\n

Sri Lanka\u2019s Kumar Sangakkara occupies the second position on this list, having scored 28,016 runs in international cricket. Tendulkar, who retired in 2013, ended up claiming 15,921 runs in 200 Tests, while in 463 ODIs, he bagged 18,426 runs.<\/p>\n

Along with his astonishing feat, Sachin Tendulkar also managed to hit a ton in that Test against Sri Lanka in 2009. Tendulkar notched his 88th international hundred (his 43rd in Tests) in the second innings of the Ahmedabad Test.<\/p>\n

Tendulkar remained unbeaten on 100 off 211 deliveries, as the second Test ended in a draw.<\/p>\n

In the 44th over on Day 5 of the Test, Chanaka Welegedara bowled an inswinging delivery to Sachin Tendulkar, who pushed it towards the deep square leg region for a single. With this, Tendulkar set the historic record of scoring 30,000 international runs.<\/p>\n

In the first innings of that Test, India had produced a healthy total of 426. Rahul Dravid and the then-India skipper MS Dhoni scored a century each to guide the hosts to a solid total. Chanaka Welegedara claimed a four-wicket haul for Sri Lanka in the first innings.<\/p>\n

In response, Sri Lanka reached a mammoth 760-run total. Mahela Jayawardene produced a terrific knock of 275 for the hosts in the first innings.<\/p>\n

In the second innings, Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir scored a hundred each, as India reached 412 at the loss of four wickets. Along with Tendulkar, VVS Laxman remained unbeaten on 51 in the second innings of that Test.<\/p>\n
