BJP senior leader Amit Malviya on Wednesday slammed the Congress party\u2019s decision to award the 2024 Indira Gandhi Peace Prize to former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet.<\/p>\n

Malviya accused Bachelet of aligning with an \u201canti-India, pro-Islamist” narrative, and said the Congress\u2019 decision to award her was both revealing and predictable<\/p>\n

In a lengthy post on X, Malviya accused Bachelet of using her position at the UN to target India, particularly over issues like \u201cminority rights” and \u201cfreedom of speech.”<\/p>\n

\u201cBachelet carried her ideological baggage into her UN role, where she routinely targeted India under the guise of \u201cminority rights” and \u201cfreedom of speech”,” the BJP IT Cell Head wrote.<\/p>\n

According to Malviya, these issues were often raised by Bachelet to criticise India\u2019s internal matters, including its policies on Kashmir and its treatment of Muslims.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe repeatedly weaponised the very ideals of liberal democracy\u2014free speech, dissent, minority protections\u2014to amplify the Congress-style playbook of disruption, distrust, and manufactured outrage, especially by recycling discredited myths about Kashmir. Her habit of accusing India of \u201cmarginalising Muslims” fit neatly into the same propaganda template,” he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe real issue isn\u2019t her bias. It\u2019s Congress\u2019s eagerness to reward it,” Malviya said, emphasising that Congress had found ideological allies abroad to share in its anti-India stance.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cFor a party that has been rejected and cast aside by Indian voters, it makes perfect sense to seek comfort among those who share its prejudices and hostility towards India\u2019s interests.”<\/p>\n

Michelle Bachelet, who served as Chile\u2019s first female president and UN Human Rights Commissioner from 2018 to 2022, received the prestigious award on Wednesday from Sonia Gandhi, chairperson of the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust. Bachelet\u2019s award was granted in recognition of her work for peace, disarmament, and human development.<\/p>\n
