Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor will observe a day-long silent fast (maun upwas) at Gandhi Bhitiharwa Ashram in Bihar\u2019s West Champaran district on Thursday, November 20, as atonement for the failure of his party in the recent elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite working hard for three years, why have we failed to convey our message to the people of Bihar? For self-reflection and atonement, a one-day fast will be observed at Gandhi Ashram, Bhitiharwa,” the party said in a social media post.<\/p>\n

The strategist-turned-politician would observe the fast on Thursday from 11 am, on the same day when JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar would take oath as Bihar\u2019s Chief Minister for the 10th time at Patna\u2019s iconic Gandhi Maidan.<\/p>\n

Kishore on Tuesday acknowledged the failure of his party in the recent elections, admitting that the organisation was unable to bring about a change in power in Bihar.<\/p>\n

He took all the blame for the defeat and apologised to the people of the state. Stating that he \u201ctakes all the blame” for his party\u2019s massive Bihar poll rout, Jan Suraaj party chief said that he \u201cfailed to change the government”.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe tried very positively from our end. We failed to change this government. We tried a lot from our end, but it seems we failed somewhere. I take all the blame on me as I failed to let people understand. We will do our introspection. I am sorry,” he said.<\/p>\n

Further pledging to work harder, Kishor said, \u201cI will work twice as hard as you\u2019ve seen me work over the past three years and put in all my energy. There\u2019s no question of backing down. There\u2019s no turning back until I fulfil my resolve to make Bihar better.”<\/p>\n

The former poll strategist\u2019s Jan Suraaj Party (JSP), which was dubbed the \u2018X factor\u2019 in the Bihar election, failed to open its account in the 243-member assembly, despite contesting in 238 seats.<\/p>\n

According to the Election Commission, most of the JSP candidates have secured less than 10 per cent of the total votes polled and have their deposit forfeited. The party\u2019s best performance came from Naveen Kumar Singh alias Abhay Singh, who secured the second spot from the Marhaura constituency. Jitendra Kumar Rai of the RJD won the seat by a margin of 27928 votes.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the NDA\u2019s \u2018tsunami\u2019 swept away the opposition Mahagathbandhan in Bihar, with the BJP emerging as the single-largest party with 89 seats, and the Janata Dal (United) finishing a close second with 85. The other allies of the ruling coalition also registered high strike rates.<\/p>\n

The ruling NDA got 202 seats, a three-fourths majority in the 243-member House. This is the second time the NDA has crossed the 200-mark in the assembly polls. In the 2010 polls, it had won 206 seats.<\/p>\n

In the NDA, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 89 seats, Janata Dal (United) won 85, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (LJPRV) won 19, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) (HAMS) won five, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha won four seats.<\/p>\n

In Mahagathbandhan, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) won 25 seats, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) \u2013 CPI(ML)(L) \u2013 two, Indian Inclusive Party (IIP) \u2013 one and Communist Party of India (Marxist) \u2013 CPI(M) one seat.<\/p>\n

All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) won five seats, and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) got one seat.<\/p>\n
