The Bihar assembly election results have once again brought cheer for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which has shored up nearly 200 leads on the state\u2019s 243 assembly seats, indicating that it is on track to post its biggest tally with an excellent strike rate.<\/p>\n

The trends, however, paint a stark picture for the opposition alliance, Mahagathbandhan, with both the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) being blamed for bringing down the coalition\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n

Of the 61 seats allotted to the Grand Old Party, it is leading in just six seats as of time, down significantly from its already weak showing in 2020. The numbers represent a miniscule percentage win of 9.8 per cent in 2025 [as per trends so far] versus 27.1 per cent in 2020\u2014a massive drop in conversion rate per contested seat. <\/p>\n

By contrast, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)\u2014the main partner in the alliance\u2014is leading on 27 seats, according to the latest count. It was allotted 143 seats to contest. The RJD\u2019s performance so far shows a 19 per cent lead-to-contested-seat ratio, highlighting an advantage over the Congress.<\/p>\n

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, the RJD emerged as the single-largest party with 75 seats; it contested 144 seats. Five years ago, their win percentage stood at 52 per cent. That time too, the Congress delivered a weak performance. Although the Congress had been allotted 70 seats, it managed to win only 19, with a win percentage of 27.1 per cent. <\/p>\n

The Nitish Kumar-led National Democratic Alliance secured a majority in the 243-member Assembly, driven largely by the BJP\u2019s 74 seats, while the JD(U) won 43.<\/p>\n

The 2025 trends so far indicate that the perceived momentum generated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi\u2019s campaign against \u201cvote-chori,” along with the party\u2019s targeted criticism of the ECI\u2019s voter roll revision SIR process, appears to have fallen short of establishing the Congress as a credible political force in Bihar. It is also not good news for the RJD, whose strike rate so far has taken a far bigger beating compared to the 2020 polls.<\/p>\n
