(News18 Hindi)

In a stunning verdict, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has stormed back to power in Bihar, clinching 202 out of 243 Assembly seats, well beyond the two-thirds mark. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), despite a hard-fought campaign, could manage only 25 seats, while its INDIA‑bloc allies like Congress and the Left added a few more, bringing their total to about 35.

In a surprising twist, Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), contesting solo, scraped through with just one seat. The Ramgarh assembly seat in Kaimur district went in favour of BSP’s candidate, Satish Kumar, also known as Pintu Yadav.

His victory is notable, having been secured by a razor-thin margin of just 30 votes, making it one of the closest outcomes of the 2025 Bihar assembly election.

This victory not only opened the BSP’s account in Bihar in this Assembly election but also ended the party’s five-year struggle to regain a foothold in the state after successive electoral setbacks and dwindling influence.

Satish Kumar defeated BJP’s Ashok Kumar Singh by a narrow margin, with RJD securing third place in this constituency.

What Happened In 2020?

The BSP’s win in this election is particularly poignant as the party had almost captured this seat in the 2020 election, only to lose by 189 votes to RJD’s Sudhakar Singh. At that time, BSP’s candidate, Ambika Singh, garnered 57,894 votes, just shy of RJD’s 58,083, with BJP’s Ashok Kumar Singh trailing in third place.

In the 2020 Bihar elections, the BSP managed to secure just one seat out of the 78 it contested. The lone winner, Mohd Zama Khan from Chainpur, later switched allegiance to the JD(U) and went on to serve as a minister in Nitish Kumar’s cabinet.

BSP’s Narrow Comeback

Despite the close loss in Ramgarh in 2020, BSP remained resilient. In 2025, its perseverance paid off as it turned a painful near-miss by a mere 189 votes in 2020 into a triumphant win, this time by a slim margin on only 30 votes.

According to political experts, this result underscores the importance of patience and persistence in politics, where even the smallest margins can lead to significant victories.

Who Won How Many Seats In The Bihar Elections?

In terms of overall seats, the Bihar assembly election saw a total of 243 seats being contested. The NDA secured 202 seats, with BJP winning 89, JDU 85, LJP (RV) 19, HAM (S) 5, and RLM 4.

The Mahagathbandhan won 34 seats, with RJD taking 25, Congress 6, CPI (ML) Liberation 2, and CPI (M) 1.

Among the other parties, AIMIM won 5 seats, BSP 1, and Indian Inclusive Party 1.

Location :

Ramgarh, India, India

First Published:

November 15, 2025, 11:25 IST

News elections A 30-Vote Thriller In Ramgarh: How Mayawati’s BSP Pulled Off Its Only Win In Bihar

Disclaimer: Comments reflect users’ views, not News18’s.
