Test captain Shubman Gill is likely to skip the second Test against South Africa on account of a neck injury.<\/h2>\n

With India Test captain Shubman Gill likely to sit out from the second and final Test of the ongoing Freedom Trophy with South Africa, the team management has asked all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy to link up with the squad earlier than the original schedule. Nitish was representing India A against South Africa A in the ongoing unofficial ODI series in Rajkot.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old is part of India\u2019s Test squad for the South Africa series but was released from the series opener in Kolkata given the playing conditions.<\/p>\n

According to a report in timesofindia.com<\/em>, the team management wanted Nitish to continue playing and, therefore, asked him to play in the three-match one-day series. In the first one-dayer, he scored 37 runs and took 1\/18 but he didn\u2019t get to bat or bowl in the second match as the hosts took an unassailable 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n

Since making his debut during the Australia tour last year, Nitish has played 9 Tests and scored 386 runs at an average of 29.69, including a century, besides taking eight wickets with his medium pace.<\/p>\n

Gill Asked To Not Take Flight<\/h2>\n

Meanwhile, the Indian Test squad is scheduled to leave for Guwahati \u2013 the venue for the 2nd Test \u2013 on Wednesday. However, according to a report by news agency PTI<\/em>, Gill has been advised not to take flight following his neck injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe (Gill) has acute neck pain, and we\u2019re not allowed to further go into details about the injury. He has to keep continuing wearing the neck collar,” a source was quoted as saying by PTI<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has been advised three-four days\u2019 rest and not to take flight. In this situation, he is not advised to travel to Guwahati. But we are monitoring his progress on a daily basis, and the picture will be clearer by Tuesday,” the sources added.<\/p>\n

India lost the first Test by 30 runs inside three days as South Africa took a 1-0 lead in the series.<\/p>\n
