Only one in four of all winners in Bihar managed to secure a majority vote share of over 50 per cent and the BJP alone accounted for half of these high-mandate seats. No opposition MLA in any of their winning seats got more than 50 per cent vote share, the analysis of the official data by News18 shows. <\/p>\n

Of 243 MLA, just 67 got more than 50 per cent vote share and 35 of them were from the BJP\u2014the highest among the parties, data from the Election Commission of India shows. <\/p>\n

The vote share by a party or its leader is the share of the vote they received out of the total valid votes polled. The vote share of over 50 per cent means that the majority votes preferred the elected leader. Although, the rules say that the one with the highest votes in hand\u2014irrespective of vote share\u2014will be the winner. <\/p>\n

The second biggest party with a clear mandate was the JDU\u201427 MLAs with over 50 per cent vote share. Outside these two parties, the number of clear-mandate winners drops sharply.<\/p>\n

In total, MLAs from only four parties managed to get the 50 per cent-plus vote share in their respective seats\u2014three from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas)(LJPRV) and two from Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) (HAMS). <\/p>\n

LJPRV\u2019s three MLAs\u2014Babulal Shorya (55.18 per cent); Rajeev Ranjan Singh (54.29 per cent); and Raju Tiwari (52.55 per cent)\u2014secured over 50 per cent vote share. Of the 19 MLAs from the party, 13 secured vote share between 40 per cent and 49 per cent, while one secured vote share below 30 per cent.<\/p>\n

Despite 27 JD(U) MLAs crossing 50 per cent, the party also has five seats where the vote share fell below 40 per cent. The highest vote share was by its Rajgir MLA Kaushal Kishore who secured 57.87 per cent vote share. <\/p>\n

Only two BJP MLAs secured less than 40 per cent vote shares\u2014Mohania MLA Sangita Kumari with 39.98 per cent vote share and Parihar MLA Gayetri Devi with 39.36 per cent vote share. <\/p>\n

BJP\u2019s Bankipur MLA Nitin Nabin secured about 63 per cent of the vote share in his seat\u2014highest among any MLA\u2014as he bagged 98,299 votes out of 1.56 lakh votes polled. Rekha Kumari from the Rashtriya Janata Dal came second with about 30 per cent votes at 46,308. <\/p>\n

On the other end of the spectrum was LJPRV MLA Sangita Devi who bagged her seat with just 29 per cent vote share. She secured 80,459 votes out of 2.77 lakh polled votes. She won the seat with just 389 additional votes in hand than Mohammad Adil Hasan from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) who got 80,070 votes. Mahboob Alam of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) was just 1,318 votes behind, with 79,141 votes in hand.<\/p>\n

Overall, only one MLA in Bihar won with less than 30 per cent vote share, while 16 secured victory with 30-39 per cent votes. The bulk of the winners\u2014159 MLAs\u2014fell in the 40\u201349 per cent range, including 114 who polled between 45 per cent and 49 per cent, underscoring how closely fought most contests were despite the BJP and JD(U) sweeping the high-mandate bracket.<\/p>\n

There are four MLAs from Rashtriya Lok Morcha with vote share running from 42 per cent to 47 per cent. The vote share of six Congress MLAs ranged between 38 per cent and 48 per cent, the analysis shows. <\/p>\n

The 25 RJD MLAs won their respective seats with vote share running between 35 per cent and almost touching 50 per cent. Savitri Devi from Chakai bagged her seat with 80,357 votes (34.51 per cent) while the highest vote share in the party was recorded by Tejashwi Yadav at 49.74 per cent as he bagged 1.18 lakh votes. Party\u2019s Parsa MLA Karishma was little behind with 49.16 per cent vote share. <\/p>\n

With three out of four MLAs winning without 50 per cent vote support, the result shows a competitive contest across 75 per cent seats in Bihar.<\/p>\n
