India\u2019s Test skipper Shubman Gill has been released from the Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata, having been admitted a day before with a neck injury. His absence made a massive difference in India\u2019s performance against South Africa on Sunday, as his team succumbed to a 30-run loss.<\/p>\n

Cricket Association of Bengal president Sourav Ganguly visited Gill at Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital on Sunday, November 16, hours after India\u2019s 30-run loss on a challenging Eden Gardens pitch handed South Africa a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.<\/p>\n

Gill, who picked up the injury while batting on Day 2, was ruled out of the first Test ahead of Day 3. He was unavailable for India\u2019s second innings, where the side was bowled out for just 93.<\/p>\n

The BCCI gave the update before the start of day three, confirming that he will not be available to bat in the second innings on a track with uneven bounce.<\/p>\n

\u201cCaptain Shubman Gill had a neck injury on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of the day\u2019s play,” BCCI said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is currently under observation in the hospital. He will take no further part in the Test. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team,” the statement added.<\/p>\n

Gill was taken by stretcher into an ambulance and admitted to a Kolkata hospital on the evening of November 15, with his neck immobilised, just hours after retiring hurt during India\u2019s first innings.<\/p>\n

Gill experienced neck pain after sweeping South Africa spinner Simon Harmer for a four and walked off the field after receiving initial treatment from the team\u2019s medical staff.<\/p>\n

The team management is yet to decide on his availability for the second Test starting November 22 in Guwahati. The team will travel there on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
