In her first reaction since her party managed to win only a single seat in the Bihar Assembly elections, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati claimed that the party would have won more seats if the polls had been \u201cfree and fair”.<\/p>\n

The BSP contested 192 of Bihar\u2019s 243 seats, but won only a single seat in Ramgarh, where Satish Kumar Singh Yadav defeated the BJP\u2019s Ashok Kumar Singh by a razor-thin margin of just 30 votes. Yadav polled 72,689 votes (37.29%) and Singh got 72,659 votes (37.29%).<\/p>\n

Mayawati took to X to congratulate her party leaders and workers and called on them to continue their work to fulfil the aspirations of Dr BR Ambedkar and party founder Kanshi Ram. She accused the local administration and opposition parties are conspiring to defeat the BSP candidate.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough, under the pretext of repeated vote counting, the local administration and all opposition parties united to make every possible effort to defeat the BSP candidate, but due to the brave party workers standing firm throughout, the opponents\u2019 conspiracy could not succeed,” she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot only that, but despite giving tough competition to the opponents on other seats in this region of Bihar, the BSP candidates could not win the elections, whereas according to feedback, if the elections had been completely free and fair, the BSP would have certainly won many more seats, but that did not happen, so there is no need for the party members to be disheartened; rather, there is a need to continue working with even more preparation ahead,” Mayawati added.<\/p>\n

The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won a landslide victory in the Bihar elections, decimating the opposition to win 202 seats. The BJP won 89 seats, closely followed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar\u2019s JD(U) at 85.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the opposition Mahagathbandhan received a massive setback, being reduced to just 35 seats, of which RJD won 25 and the Congress got only six. Mayawati\u2019s BSP repeated its 2020 performance by winning one seat. In the last elections, BSP\u2019s Mohd Zama Khan won the Chainpur seat, but later switched to JD(U).<\/p>\n
