Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday attacked the Congress, accusing the party of neglecting tribal communities for decades during its rule.<\/p>\n

Addressing a large gathering in Dediapada town in Gujarat\u2019s Narmada district, the Prime Minister spoke on the birth anniversary of tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda, observed nationwide as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.<\/p>\n

PM Modi said the contribution of tribal communities to India\u2019s freedom struggle had been repeatedly overlooked because \u201cthe desire to credit only a few families” dominated earlier governments.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis recognition should have come long ago, but the desire to credit only a few families led to the neglect of the sacrifice, discipline, and devotion of our tribal brothers and sisters,” he told the crowd.<\/p>\n

Referring to his visit to the birthplace of Birsa Munda, the Prime Minister said he was the first PM to do so.<\/p>\n

Launching a sharp attack on the Congress, PM claimed that tribal communities were ignored for years during their regime.<\/p>\n

\u201cCongress left the tribal communities to their fate, there was a lack of proper health facilities, a lack of security, little to no access to education, and almost no connectivity,” he noted.<\/p>\n

During the event, the Prime Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several development projects aimed at improving infrastructure and socio-economic conditions in remote tribal areas. These projects, he said, were designed to uplift marginalised communities and ensure they receive the opportunities long denied to them.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister is on a day-long visit to Gujarat. Earlier in the day, he landed at Surat airport, reviewed the progress of the Mumbai\u2013Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor, and then travelled to Devmogra village in Sagbara taluka before reaching Dediapada for the event.<\/p>\n
