With the final tally placing the NDA at 202 seats and the Opposition alliance reduced to just 35, the mandate stands out as one of the most emphatic the state has witnessed in more than a decade.

Bihar had registered a historic voter turnout of 67.13 percent to the 243-member assembly. A total of 7.45 crore voters were eligible to decide the electoral fate of 2,616 candidates.

Even as the BJP made a spectacular show in elections with almost all of its 101 candidates registering massive wins, 12 of its candidates missed the bus. In four of these 12 seats, the margin of defeat for the BJP was less than a thousand votes. Ten seats had a margin of less than 10,000 votes. A few lost the polls by slender margins such as 30, according to the Election Commission of India.

Of these 12 BJP losses, four came from Seemanchal, two from the Mithila-Koshi region, and the remaining six defeats were scattered among seats in Saran, Champaran, Magadh, and Tirhut divisions.

Who Are These Candidates?

Constituency

BJP Candidate

Winner

Margin

Baisi

Vinod Kumar

Ghulam Sarwar (AIMIM)

27,251

Dhaka

Pawan Kumar Jaiswal

Faisal Rahman (RJD)

178

Goh

Ranvijay Kumar

Amrendra Kumar (RJD)

4,041

Saharsa

Alok Ranjan

Indrajeet Prasad Gupta (IIP)

2038

Ramgarh

Ashok Singh

Satish Kumar Yadav (BSP)

30

Kishanganj

Sweety Singh

Md Qamrul Hoda (INC)

12,794

Forbesganj

Vidya Sagar Keshari

Manoj Bishwas (INC)

221

Chanpatia

Umakant Singh

Abhishek Ranjan (INC)

602

Bisfi

Haribhushan Thakur

Asif Ahmad (RJD)

8,107

Warsaliganj

Aruna Devi

Anita (RJD)

7,543

Raghopur

Satish Kumar

Tejashwi Yadav (RJD)

14,532

Kochadhaman

Bina Devi

Sarwar Alam (AIMIM)

37,002

Compared to other BJP candidates, Bina Devi’s performance was below par as she secured the third position in Kochadhaman by bagging 44,858 votes.
