Deepti Sharma, the Player of the Tournament in the women\u2019s ODI World Cup, who has recently joined the Uttar Pradesh Police as a DSP under the sports quota, was honoured on Friday at the state Police Headquarters in Gomtinagar Extension.<\/p>\n

Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna honoured Sharma in the presence of senior officials, commending her international achievements. \u201cDeepti Sharma has not only made the country proud but has also brought glory to Uttar Pradesh and the state police force. Her achievements inspire pride across the police fraternity,” the DGP stated in his address.<\/p>\n

According to a press statement, the DGP remarked that India\u2019s cricketing journey\u2014from the men\u2019s team\u2019s iconic 1983 World Cup win to the Indian women\u2019s team defeating seven-time champions Australia\u2014has energised young girls nationwide. He noted that Sharma\u2019s success will further motivate aspiring sportspersons.<\/p>\n

Krishna also emphasised the state government\u2019s efforts to promote sports under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, mentioning that numerous outstanding athletes have been inducted into the police force through the sports quota in the past four years. \u201cInternational-level success demands discipline, hard work, and strong willpower\u2014qualities that Deepti has demonstrated consistently,” he said.<\/p>\n

Encouraging the children of police personnel present at the event, the DGP urged them to pursue their chosen fields with dedication and discipline. He also thanked Sharma\u2019s family for their support and extended his best wishes for her future endeavours.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the ceremony, Sharma expressed her pride in addressing the gathering at the Police Headquarters. She said joining the Uttar Pradesh Police was a special moment for her, and meeting senior officers and wearing the police uniform for the first time was an unforgettable experience.<\/p>\n

Sharma mentioned that the recognition she has received across the country following the World Cup victory has deeply honoured her family. She attributed her success to her family\u2019s unwavering support, particularly highlighting her elder brother Sumit Sharma\u2019s instrumental guidance.<\/p>\n

She also expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for implementing policies that support athletes through job opportunities and financial incentives.<\/p>\n

Becoming a police officer, Sharma said, fulfilled a long-standing dream of her family.<\/p>\n

Senior officers, including DG Training Rajeev Sabharwal, DG Cyber Crime\/CB-CID Vinod Kumar Singh, and ADG Law & Order Amitabh Yash, were also present.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, according to an official statement, Sharma met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow earlier in the day.<\/p>\n

At a separate press briefing, Cabinet Minister Suresh Khanna announced that the state Cabinet passed additional resolutions congratulating the Indian women\u2019s cricket team on its maiden World Cup victory and extended special commendation to Sharma for her contribution to the victory.<\/p>\n
