On This Day In Cricket:<\/strong> The Mumbai Indians cemented their legacy as the IPL\u2019s most successful franchise by clinching their fifth Indian Premier League title on November 10, 2020. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the team secured back-to-back championships, defeating the Delhi Capitals in the final to add another glittering trophy to their illustrious collection.<\/p>\n

Despite losing a crucial toss and being asked to bowl first, Mumbai Indians<\/a> turned the tables on an in-form Capitals outfit on a dry strip in Dubai. In a fantastic effort with the ball, Rohit\u2019s reigning champions restricted the opposition to a modest 156\/7.<\/p>\n

While left-arm pacer Trent Boult (3\/30) and Aussie quick Nathan Coulter-Nile (2\/29) provided MI the breakthroughs, spearhead Jasprit Bumrah (0\/28) and off-spinner Jayant Yadav (1\/25) backed them up with tight spells, maintaining great pressure and leash on the scoring.<\/p>\n

The Capitals were dented early by a horrible top-order collapse, losing Marcus Stoinis, Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane cheaply to be reduced to 3 for 22 in the first four overs.<\/p>\n

It took a partnership from skipper Shreyas Iyer and keeper Rishabh Pant to revive their team\u2019s fortunes. Iyer played a measured innings of 65 not out from 50 balls, while Pant blazed his way to 56 off 38 deliveries.<\/p>\n

The courageous duo ensured that DC surpassed the 150-mark despite facing multiple hiccups along the way.<\/p>\n

During the chase, Rohit led MI from the front and played an inspiring knock inside the power play. His tremendous strokeplay amid the field restrictions damaged the opposition\u2019s spirits early in the second half, unleashing an assault that DC never quite recovered from.<\/p>\n

Rohit finished with a memorable innings of 68 before wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan\u2019s free-flowing 33 provided the final touches to MI\u2019s defining win.<\/p>\n

To have any chance of keeping MI\u2019s power-packed batting line-up quiet, Delhi required a comprehensive display as a bowling unit. But Rohit\u2019s brilliant knock fended off the threat posed by the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Ravichandran Ashwin.<\/p>\n

By the time Anrich Nortje (2\/25) sent the great right-hander back in the 17th over, it was too late for the possibility of a turnaround. MI eventually sealed their triumph with five wickets intact and more than an over to spare. Trent Boult, for his superb spell, was adjudged the player of the match.<\/p>\n
