(PTI/File)

After polling concluded in 121 seats for the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, early claims and counterclaims have begun. Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary asserted that the NDA is poised to win 100 seats. On the other hand, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, leading the Mahagathbandhan, avoided giving a seat tally but said he was confident that voters across Bihar had turned out in strong numbers to ensure his coalition’s victory.

Election strategist–turned–politician Prashant Kishor, known for his accurate predictions in the West Bengal Assembly elections, has shared his insights after Bihar’s first phase recorded its highest-ever voter turnout of 64.66 percent since Independence.

Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraj Party, which is contesting the Bihar Assembly elections for the first time, said, “This is the highest voting percentage recorded in Bihar in decades. It reflects two things. First, what we have been saying for months, indeed for the past year, is now clear: more than 60% of people in Bihar want change. For the last 25–30 years, the absence of a real political alternative had created apathy toward politics and elections. Voters felt they had no choice. With the emergence of Jansuraj, they now see a new option.”

In an interview with news agency ANI, Kishor elaborated that the increased voting percentage demonstrates that people are enthusiastic about a new political alternative and have turned out in large numbers to vote for change.

Additionally, many migrant workers who stayed back after Chhath have voted themselves and encouraged their friends and family to vote, which has taken many by surprise. Kishor emphasised that those who believed that giving women Rs 10,000 would guarantee victory were mistaken.

Kishor said, “Women are certainly a factor in this election, but migrant workers are the real X-factor. Their influence, how they mobilise friends, acquaintances and family, will shape the Bihar verdict. We are fully confident about Jan Suraj. On November 14, you will witness history being made. None of the so-called experts had predicted such a massive turnout this time.”

When questioned about the Mahagathbandhan’s prospects after heavy voting, Kishor reiterated that the people of Bihar are seeking a new option. He highlighted that Bihar has experienced 15 years of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi’s government, followed by 20 years of Nitish Kumar and BJP rule. Now, Jan Suraj represents a new choice for the people. In this election, the Mahagathbandhan could end up in third place, while Jan Suraj will either lead or trail behind.

How PK’s Bihar Prediction Differs From Bengal

Prashant Kishor, while predicting the West Bengal Assembly election, was working as an election strategist for Trinamool Congress. Now, he is leading the Jan Suraj Party and attempting to establish it as the third political force in Bihar. Thus, the fairness of his prediction for Bihar is worth contemplating.

Additionally, during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Kishor predicted BJP would secure around 300 seats, but they achieved only 240.

Bihar recorded a provisional, highest-ever voter turnout of nearly 65 percent in the first phase of the Assembly elections that concluded on Thursday. In comparison, the 2020 Assembly elections, conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, saw a turnout of only 57.29 percent. Before this year, Bihar’s highest polling percentage was 62.57 percent, recorded in the 2000 elections.

First Published:

November 07, 2025, 14:29 IST

News elections After Big Bihar Turnout, PK Says Mahagathbandhan May Slip To Third; He Predicted Bengal Right

Disclaimer: Comments reflect users’ views, not News18’s.
