South Africa\u2019s Laura Wolvaardt and India\u2019s Jemimah Rodrigues embodied the true spirit of the game with a heartfelt exchange after the ICC Women\u2019s World Cup 2025 final.<\/p>\n

India etched their name in history with a dominant 52-run win over South Africa at a packed DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on November 2, lifting their maiden Women\u2019s World Cup trophy.<\/p>\n

Despite the heartbreak, South Africa skipper Wolvaardt stood tall with a magnificent century, her valiant 101 keeping the Proteas in the hunt before they were eventually bowled out for 246.<\/p>\n

After the match, she took to Instagram with a gracious message: \u201cNot meant to be for us last night. Thank you for a memorable six weeks, India. Still so proud.”<\/p>\n

Her Indian counterpart Jemimah Rodrigues, one of the stars of the tournament, responded warmly: \u201cThe way you and this team played this tournament was amazing! You all can be proud of yourselves.”<\/p>\n

Wolvaardt replied with gratitude, a simple yet touching \u201cthank you” that reflected the mutual respect between the sides.<\/p>\n

Rodrigues herself had been instrumental in India\u2019s triumph. Her unbeaten 127 in the semi-final against Australia set up India\u2019s record-breaking chase and secured their place in the final.<\/p>\n

Even amid India\u2019s celebrations, the DY Patil crowd honoured Wolvaardt\u2019s brilliance. As she walked up during the presentation ceremony, chants of \u201cWell played, Laura!” echoed through the stands \u2014 a tribute not just to her batting, but to her grace in defeat.<\/p>\n
