Indian women\u2019s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur on Sunday, November 2, went past former Australia skipper Belinda Clark to become the player with the most runs in women\u2019s ODI World Cup knockouts, with 331 runs in four innings. The latter had 330 runs in six innings during her illustrious career.<\/p>\n

Harmanpreet scored an unbeaten 171 in the semifinals against Australia in the 2017 ODI World Cup and followed it up with a 51-run knock in the final against England.<\/p>\n

In the ongoing edition, Harmanpreet scored 89 against Australia in the semifinal but could manage just 20 runs in the final against South Africa, but that was enough to take her past Clark\u2019s longstanding record.<\/p>\n

The former Australia captain\u2019s last big innings was a 62-run knock in the semifinal of the 2005 World Cup against England and she also scored 19 more runs in the final against India. Clark-led Australia went on to win the World Cup that year.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, South Africa fought their way back into the Women\u2019s World Cup final with a brilliant middle-overs spell from Ayabonga Khaka and Nonkululeko Mlaba, after Shafali Verma\u2019s explosive start had put India in command early on in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2.<\/p>\n

India were down to 229\/4 after 40 overs, after the dismissal of captain Harmanpreet (20) by left-arm spinner Mlaba to further tighten the screws.<\/p>\n

Just when her stand with Deepti Sharma was starting to take shape before the final 10 overs, Mlaba gave her team the breakthrough.<\/p>\n

Drafted in for the semifinal against Australia after Pratika Rawal\u2019s injury, Shafali continued her dream run with a sparkling 87 off 78 deliveries, her first fifty in more than three years after South Africa opted to bowl.<\/p>\n

With vice-captain Smriti Mandhana (45), Shafali added 104 for the opening wicket to give India a rousing start, scoring at almost seven runs per over after a two-hour delay because of a wet outfield.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
