A US-based influencer, Ash Cantley, who once worked as a set designer on Kal Ho Naa Ho, revealed that the experience was so bad it made her quit the industry.<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n

Even two decades after its release, Kal Ho Naa Ho remains a timeless Bollywood classic \u2014 a film that continues to tug at heartstrings with its emotional storytelling and unforgettable performances by Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, and Saif Ali Khan. However, for one person behind the scenes, the experience of working on the film was far from magical.<\/p>\n

A US-based influencer and former set designer, Ash Cantley, recently revealed that her time working on Kal Ho Naa Ho was so unpleasant that it made her quit the industry altogether.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt Was So Bad I Switched Careers”<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a video shared on her Instagram account, Ash looked back at her early career in film design and described working on Kal Ho Naa Ho as the \u201cworst job” of her life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI worked on the film Kal Ho Naa Ho, and it was so bad that I ended up switching careers,” she recalled. \u201cI had such a bad experience on that film that I probably tried to block it out. First of all, I got paid $75 (around \u20b96,000) a day, and I\u2019m talking 12 to 17-hour days. I was a set designer, which means I spent most of my time redesigning this diner, inch by inch.”<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Men Were Paid More Than Me”<\/strong><\/p>\n

The influencer also spoke about the gender pay gap she experienced while working on the film, claiming that male crew members were paid significantly more for the same job.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe men on set were getting $125 (around \u20b911,000) a day,” she said, adding that the diner she worked on was \u201cabandoned and filled with filth.” She described the conditions as \u201chorrible” and called the experience \u201cthe worst job” she\u2019s ever had.<\/p>\n

Ash also mentioned that the film\u2019s director, Nikkhil Advani, had pitched the project to her as \u201cthe Titanic of American films.” She accepted the offer because she was young and eager to break into the entertainment industry. \u201cI was young, dumb, and desperate to get experience,” she said candidly.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m Not Angry About It Anymore”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite her negative experience, Ash clarified that she doesn\u2019t hold any resentment toward the production. \u201cBack then, a lot of people were underpaid. It was the norm in the industry. I\u2019m not angry about it now \u2014 I just wouldn\u2019t do something like that again,” she said.<\/p>\n

Sharing the video, she wrote in her caption, \u201cI didn\u2019t even realise I worked on one of the biggest Bollywood films ever until this weekend.”<\/p>\n

Released in 2003 and directed by Nikkhil Advani under Dharma Productions, Kal Ho Naa Ho remains one of Bollywood\u2019s most beloved films.
