In a fresh escalation of political tensions in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again launched a sharp attack on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, calling him a \u201cPakistani agent” allegedly \u201cplanted by foreign powers” in India.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sarma challenged Gogoi to file a defamation case against him if he had the \u201ccourage” to do so. He further added that he would \u201cprove” his allegations after \u201cjustice is given to Zubeen Garg,” referring to the ongoing investigation into the case involving the popular Assamese singer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, \u201cGaurav Gogoi is a Pakistani agent. He is a pure Pakistani agent. If he has the courage, lodge a defamation case against me. What I have is the evidence, he is a 100 per cent Pakistani agent. He has been planted by foreign power in our country. He is a planted person. I am saying this with facts. As a Chief Minister, I am saying that he is a pure Pakistani agent.\u00a0 After giving justice to Zubeen Garg, I will prove it.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Sarma\u2019s remarks are part of a continuing political feud between Assam\u2019s BJP-led government and the Congress. The Chief Minister\u2019s accusations centre around claims of foreign links involving Gogoi\u2019s wife, Elizabeth Colburn, a British national.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Sarma, Colburn allegedly has \u201cconnections with Pakistan-based individuals and organisations,” a claim that both Gogoi and his wife have categorically denied. The allegations stem from what Sarma described as a Special Investigation Team (SIT) report submitted to the Assam Cabinet, though no details of the report have been made public due to its \u201csensitive nature.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Gaurav Gogoi, who represents Kaliabor in Parliament and serves as the Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, has dismissed the accusations as baseless and politically motivated. Congress leaders have also condemned the remarks, calling them an attempt to divert public attention from pressing governance issues in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n

While Sarma insists he will soon \u201cpresent evidence” of Gogoi\u2019s alleged foreign ties, no concrete proof has yet been made public. <\/span><\/p>\n
