Power saving mode on Google Maps could be a smart move<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

Google Maps is the de-facto navigation choice among millions who use it for live traffic data while driving to work or long journeys. But using the GPS and location-based feature takes a toll on the battery of your phone if it is not built into the vehicle\u2019s navigation deck.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And that\u2019s where the news about the possible power-saving option in Maps caught our attention, courtesy the folks at Android Authority this week. They have found code trails which hints at the feature making its way to Maps in the next few iterations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Power Saving On Maps: Genius Move?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Navigation through Google Maps or any other app will drain your battery faster especially when you are on mobile data. The power saving tool makes a lot of sense as long as Google implements it the right way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The report says turning this mode on will reduce the details you will see on the screen and probably reduce the graphics quality and just focus on the turn-by-turn navigation system working effectively. Google could have a touch button to activate the feature and also switch to a monochrome mode to save more drain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some of you might say that Maps is best used in its full mode and you can always keep the phone charged in the car while travelling which negates the purpose of having a power saving mode. However, it will definitely help users conserve the phone\u2019s battery for at least an hour if not more and that reduces the need to charge the device quickly. <\/span><\/p>\n

There is still no word about its availability to the public or even the testing group but we do hope to hear about this tool and more from Google in the near future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Google Maps faces local pressure in India with platforms like MapMyIndia pushing its Mappls app for users. The Indian government has been insisting on use of made in India products, which also included the clamour for Zoho\u2019s Arattai messaging app that rival WhatsApp in the market. <\/span><\/p>\n
