Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel\u2019s 150th Birth Anniversary 2025:<\/strong> India\u2019s first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, revered as the \u2018Iron Man of India\u2019, played an instrumental role in shaping the country\u2019s political future by uniting 562 princely states post-Independence. As India became an independent nation on August 15, 1947, Patel became India\u2019s first Home Minister and made great efforts under Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru\u2019s government to strengthen India\u2019s position as a sovereign country by integrating the princely states.<\/p>\n

By bringing together diverse regions, cultures and communities, Patel eliminated centuries-old indifference and upheld the message of unity in diversity, laying the foundation of modern India. He echoed the idea of shared values, brotherhood and harmony and aimed to eliminate regional, religious and caste-based differences.<\/p>\n

The legendary freedom fighter and lawyer was born in a farming family in Nadiad, Gujarat, on October 31, 1875. In 2014, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government declared Sardar Patel\u2019s birth anniversary, October 31, as National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.<\/p>\n

This year, the central government has announced a series of events to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. On October 31, around 8 a.m., the Prime Minister will pay floral tribute at the Statue of Unity<\/a>, followed by the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.<\/p>\n

1. Sardar Patel passed his matriculation at the late age of 22 but went on to become one of the most successful lawyers in the country.<\/p>\n

2. Sardar Patel was appointed India\u2019s first Deputy Prime Minister after Independence.<\/p>\n

3. It was a remarkable turnaround for Patel to emerge as an inspiring leader, as he wasn\u2019t initially interested in politics. He joined the freedom movement after meeting Mahatma Gandhi in 1917.<\/p>\n

4. Patel joined Congress and became the secretary of its Gujarat Sabha. After Independence, he held portfolios of Home Affairs, States and Information and Broadcasting.<\/p>\n

5. At the age of 36, Patel underwent a three-year law course at the Inns of Court Middle Temple in London.<\/p>\n

6. The Iron Man of India completed his law course within 30 months instead of the usual 36-month duration to qualify as a barrister.<\/p>\n
