In a major boost for sugarcane farmers, the Uttar Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has announced an increase of Rs 30 per quintal in the State Advisory Price (SAP) for sugarcane purchased by sugar mills. <\/p>\n

The decision, revealed on Tuesday, raises the price of early variety sugarcane from Rs 370 to Rs 400 per quintal, while the price of general variety sugarcane increases from Rs 360 to Rs 390 per quintal. This measure is expected to economically strengthen approximately 4.5 million farmer families in the state.<\/p>\n

Sugar Industry and Cane Development Minister Lakshmi Narayan Chaudhary announced the cabinet\u2019s decision, which will be effective for the 2025-26 crushing season. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe government\u2019s goal is to ensure an increase in farmers\u2019 income. In the last seven years, the Yogi government has increased the sugarcane price by a total of Rs 85 per quintal, which is significantly higher than previous governments,” he stated.<\/p>\n

Greater Advantages For Farmers<\/h2>\n

Sugarcane, which is cultivated on around 2.9 million hectares in Uttar Pradesh, serves as a vital cash crop for farmers. The price hike for early variety sugarcane will benefit farmers during the early crushing season, whereas the rise for the general variety will assist in covering production costs. <\/p>\n

Additionally, the transportation deduction at the mill gate has been raised to Rs 45 per quintal, although only a maximum of Rs 9 per quintal will be deducted. In the current season, 86 per cent of sugarcane dues have been paid, and 120 sugar mills are actively operational in the state. <\/p>\n

Beneficial Impact On Farmers<\/h2>\n

With 4.2 million families and 4.5 million workers engaged in sugarcane farming, the government has settled dues amounting to Rs 2.2 lakh crore over the past six years, fostering trust between mill owners and farmers. <\/p>\n

The Sugar Industry Department aims to achieve a gross value production of Rs 1,41,846 crore by 2025-26, with plans to increase the sugar recovery rate from 9.56 per cent to 10.50 per cent.<\/p>\n
