Union Home Minister Amit Shah<\/a> on Wednesday said that no one can touch the recently amended Waqf (Amendment) Act, which the Mahagathbandhan has promised to block in Bihar\u00a0if it wins the assembly election.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Network18 Group Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi at News18 \u2018Sabse Bada Dangal\u2019 ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, the former BJP chief said no one can touch the Waqf law and stressed that it is the promise of the BJP.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t understand the Constitution and the law. I want to tell people of Bihar and India till the time there is a BJP MP in Parliament, no one can touch the waqf law. It is the promise of the BJP,” Shah said.<\/p>\n

The Mahagathbandhan, in its manifesto, has promised to put the Waqf Amendment Act on hold and said the constitutional rights of all minority communities will be protected.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Waqf Amendment Bill will be put on hold, and the management of Waqf properties will be made more welfare-oriented and beneficial by making them transparent,” read the manifesto.<\/p>\n

INDIA bloc\u2019s chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav had recently said the Waqf (Amendment) Act would be \u201cthrown into the dustbin” if the opposition alliance came to power in Bihar.<\/p>\n

The Waqf (Amendment) Act was passed by Parliament in April. The ruling BJP-led NDA has described the legislation as a move toward transparency and empowerment for backward Muslims and women, while opposition parties have alleged it infringes upon the rights of the Muslim community.<\/p>\n
