BCCI confirms Shreyas Iyer suffered a spleen laceration and internal bleeding during the third ODI vs Australia in Sydney.<\/h2>\n

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has revealed that star batter Shreyas Iyer suffered a \u2018blunt\u2019 injury to his abdomen, which resulted in a laceration of his spleen alongside internal bleeding, on Saturday, October 25, during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney.<\/p>\n

Iyer<\/span> injured his lower left rib cage while diving for a hard running catch to dismiss Alex Carey off Harshit Rana\u2019s bowling. Though he walked off with the physio\u2019s help, his condition worsened later as his vitals dropped, leading to immediate <\/span>hospitalisation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Subsequent tests revealed internal bleeding caused by a laceration in the spleen, after which he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.<\/p>\n

\u201cShreyas <\/span>Iyer<\/span> sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding on 25th October during the third ODI against Australia,” the BCCI statement read.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe injury was promptly identified and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His condition is now stable and he continues to be under observation. A repeat scan done on Tuesday, 28th October, has shown significant improvement and Shreyas is on the road to recovery,” the statement said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The BCCI medical team, in consultation with specialists in India as well as Sydney, will continue to monitor Iyer\u2019s progress, the statement added.<\/p>\n

As per an earlier PTI<\/em> report, BCCI\u2019s head of medical services, Dr <\/span>Dinshaw<\/span> Pardiwala<\/span>, lauded the on-field medical team for their swift and effective response, which helped prevent a critical situation.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Meanwhile, sources indicated that Iyer\u2019s family members are expected to travel to Sydney soon to be by his side as he continues to recover.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
