A study published in the Ageing and Disease journal has found an exercise that can be particularly beneficial to the mind and improve its memory functions even in older adults.<\/p>\n<p id=\"1\" class=\"story_para_1\">The\u00a0researchers behind\u00a0the\u00a0study have identified <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news18.com\/news\/lifestyle\/how-does-hiit-or-high-intensity-interval-training-help-you-5320327.html\">high-intensity interval training<\/a> (HIIT) as the most effective means to counter cognitive function challenges and keep our brain health as sharp as ever, even in old age. To improve our memory and perform brain-related tasks efficiently, HIIT can be highly beneficial.<\/p>\n<h4>Study On High-Intensity Interval Training<\/h4>\n<p id=\"2\" class=\"story_para_2\">Basing their judgment on patterns observed among the participants aged 65-85, researchers first divided them into three groups and across three exercise paces: low-intensity training, medium-intensity training and high-intensity interval training. The participants were asked to undergo their training type for six months, with the researchers wanting to identify which of the three benefited the hippocampus the most. The hippocampus is integral to the brain\u2019s memory support system and learning capabilities.<\/p>\n<p id=\"3\" class=\"story_para_3\">Later, it was discovered that\u00a0the\u00a0participants who underwent\u00a0the\u00a0high-intensity interval training for half\u00a0a\u00a0year showed\u00a0the\u00a0most improvement in hippocampus function.\u00a0The\u00a0study said\u00a0the\u00a0benefits from\u00a0the\u00a0exercise lasted up to five years.<\/p>\n<h4>Why HIIT Is Great For Our\u00a0Brain?<\/h4>\n<p id=\"4\" class=\"story_para_4\">The\u00a0study detailed findings about\u00a0a\u00a0chemical called\u00a0brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which helps\u00a0brain\u00a0cells grow, develop logical skills and experience stronger overall functioning. Based on\u00a0the\u00a0researchers\u2019 findings, HIIT is found to bolster\u00a0the\u00a0presence\u00a0of\u00a0this chemical in\u00a0the\u00a0brain, acting as\u00a0a\u00a0strength training workout for\u00a0the\u00a0brain\u2019s nerves.\u00a0The\u00a0HIIT also plays\u00a0a\u00a0role in transforming\u00a0a\u00a0stress hormone called cortisol, which is directly linked with more efficient hippocampal function.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5\" class=\"story_para_5\">The researchers recommend that individuals take part in high-intensity interval training for at least three such workout sessions per week for long-lasting benefits.
