Shreyas Iyer suffered an injury while fielding during the third India-Australia ODI on October 25, and he was admitted to a hospital in Sydney for treatment.<\/h2>\n

Star Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer, who was admitted to a hospital in Sydney after suffering an injury while taking a catch in the third India-Australia ODI match at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday (October 25), has been moved out of ICU. According to a fresh report in Cricbuzz on Monday (October 27), the 30-year-old right-handed batter from Mumbai, who is also the vice-captain of India\u2019s ODI side now, is recovering well and has been moved out of the ICU.<\/p>\n

\u201cShreyas Iyer\u2019s health remains delicate but stable. The BCCI has assigned the team doctor to monitor him closely, and the 30-year-old is understood to be recovering well,” the report read.<\/p>\n

\u201cA few local friends have also been keeping him company, and a family member may fly to Sydney from Mumbai once the visa formalities are completed. The family was unable to apply over the weekend, delaying the process slightly,” the report added.<\/p>\n

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to X on Monday morning to share an official update about Iyer.<\/p>\n

\u201cShreyas Iyer sustained an impact injury to his left lower rib cage region while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on 25th October 2025. He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.”<\/p>\n

\u201cScans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress,” the report added.<\/p>\n

According to available information, the BCCI, Indian team management and Shreyas\u2019 family don\u2019t want to rush him back, and therefore he is expected to remain in Sydney till he fully recovers. He is likely to remain in the hospital for a few more days.<\/p>\n

Iyer wasn\u2019t part of India\u2019s T20I squad for the five-match series against Australia starting October 29, and since he has asked the BCCI for a six-month break from red-ball cricket, he was not in contention to be considered for the India-South Africa Test series. However, it will be interesting to see if he is fit enough to feature in the ODI series against the Proteas.<\/p>\n
