Spotify plans in India are now going to cost you more money. The company has changed its pricing in India for the first time since its launch in 2019. The new plans will be revised for users, duo and even the family versions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The platform is looking at ways to manage the overhead costs involved in running the app and also continue to bring new features for its users. These price changes are applicable in markets like the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Asia-Pacific among others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Spotify Plans To Cost More: What You Pay In India<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The basic Spotify individual plan will now cost you Rs 139 per month, which is a Rs 20 hike on the current version. Similarly, the Spotify Duo plan, which allows two people to use one account, now comes at Rs 179 per month, which is a Rs 30 increase on the previous offering.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And the family plan has got the biggest hike of Rs 50, which means you need to spend Rs 229 (rather than Rs 179) per month for up to 6 people to use one account. This might be the first time when Spotify has revised plans in India but its free offerings are clearly taking a backseat in the last few years. <\/span><\/p>\n

The platform has reduced the number of features you get with the freemium version that has ads. You even see basic options like repeating a song or playing its lyrics removed from the free tier.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Spotify isn\u2019t the only streaming platform to make changes to its services in India. YouTube had recently increased the price of the Premium version that gives you ad-free video streaming and access to the YouTube Music app.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Spotify is clearly looking to turn the free users into paid subscribers, and in addition to that, the company now wants to increase its revenues from these emerging markets, as the competition looks to build its own streams. We\u2019re yet to see the Spotify Hi-Fi version launch in the market, but hopefully that changes in the coming months. <\/span><\/p>\n
