Operation Sindoor Debate:<\/strong> Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday questioned the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led union government over US President\u2019s repeated assertion of brokering ceasefire between India and Pakistan.<\/p>\n

While participating in a special three-day discussion in the Lok Sabha on \u201cIndia\u2019s strong, successful and decisive Operation Sindoor in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam”, the Lok Sabha LoP threw a challenge before the Prime Minister to declare the US President \u201ca liar” on the floor of the house.<\/p>\n

\u201cUS president Donald Trump has said 29 times that he brokered the ceasefire. Fine, if he\u2019s lying, then let Prime Minister Modi say it clearly in his speech here: \u201cYou are lying. He further quoted India\u2019s defence attach\u00e9 in Indonesia to attack government, saying you told pilots to not attack their air defence system.<\/p>\n

\u201cIAF made no mistake, political leadership did by saying you cannot attack military infrastructure of Pakistan,” he said.<\/p>\n

He further commented upon Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir\u2019s Lunch party with Trump and said, \u201cThe man behind Pahalgam is Munir who is having lunch with Trump. He is sitting there and our PM is not going there. PM has not said anything.”<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s Repeated Assertions<\/h3>\n

Trump time and again has asserted that he had \u201csettled” the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan, attributing the resolution to his efforts in pursuing trade agreements with both nations.<\/p>\n

The US President has consistently maintained that he played a pivotal role in de-escalating the conflict between India and Pakistan.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Monday, the US President claimed that if he had not intervened in time with a threat of stopping trade negotiations, India and Pakistan would have been at war.<\/p>\n

During a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland\u2019s Turnberry, the US President took credit for stepping in and asserted that the world would have witnessed six major wars if he had not intervened.<\/p>\n

New Delhi\u2019s Denies Trump\u2019s Claims<\/h3>\n

New Delhi has consistently denied Trump\u2019s claims\u00a0that he was instrumental in bringing about the May 10 ceasefire between the two countries.<\/p>\n

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday, while addressing the Lok Sabha, informed that no telephonic conversation was held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump from April 22 to June 17.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was no call between PM Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump from April 22, when Trump called up to convey sympathy and to June 17, when he called up PM in Canada to explain why he couldn\u2019t meet him,” Jaishankar said in Lok Sabha.<\/p>\n

The EAM went on to explain the events that led to the cessation of the conflict.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn May 9, US Vice President JD Vance called the Prime Minister, warning of a massive Pakistani attack in the next two hours. The PM, in his response, made it very clear that if such an attack happens, it would meet an appropriate response from our side. That attack took place and was foiled by our armed forces on May 9-10. Our response was delivered. Every member has seen satellite pictures of Pakistani air bases. You can see pictures. On May 10, we received phone calls, sharing the impression that Pakistan was ready to cease the fight. Our position was if Pakistan was ready, we needed to get this request from the Pakistani side through DGMO channels. At no stage, in any conversation with the United States, was there any linkage with trade and what was going on,” he added.<\/p>\n

Pahalgam Attack<\/h3>\n

In one of the biggest attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, Lashkar-linked terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists in Pahalgam on Tuesday, April 22, killing at least 26 people, including foreign tourists, and injuring many others. The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar offshoot, claimed responsibility for the attack, although it later backtracked after massive global outrage.<\/p>\n

India responded with Operation Sindoor on May 7, bombing nine terrorist camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in pre-dawn strikes that killed at least 100 militants. The operation sparked four days of cross-border fighting involving fighter jets, missiles and artillery.<\/p>\n
