Australia clinched the ODI series as Shubman Gill cited dropped catches and a low total for India’s defeat.<\/h2>\n

India captain Shubman Gill acknowledged that dropped catches and an insufficient total were crucial factors in his team\u2019s defeat, as Australia secured the ODI series with a disciplined all-round performance on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

India lost the second ODI by two wickets following a seven-wicket loss in the first match at Perth. The Indian fielders were not at their best, missing at least three opportunities, including a chance to dismiss Matthew Short, who scored a commendable 74 off 78 balls.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had just enough runs on the board. Never easy when you drop a couple of chances to be able to defend that kind of a total,” Gill said during the post-match presentation ceremony.<\/p>\n

The young skipper also noted that the pitch did not present any major issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the first game, the toss was more crucial because of the rain, but in this one both teams played for almost 50 overs. The wicket did a little early on, but it settled nicely after 15\u201320 overs,” Gill explained.<\/p>\n

Gill praised senior batter Rohit Sharma for his resilient knock of 73.<\/p>\n

\u201cNever easy, coming back and playing after a long time. The initial phase was challenging, but very pleased with how he batted. He fought out well; I would say he missed out on a really big knock,” the India skipper remarked.<\/p>\n

Future Is Bright<\/h2>\n

Australia, led by Mitchell Marsh, demonstrated depth in both batting and bowling, and the home skipper praised his bowlers and the composure of the younger batters.<\/p>\n

\u201cHazlewood was unbelievable. Our bowling unit kept trying to pick wickets. It was awesome batting from the youngsters \u2014 the future is bright for Australian cricket. We\u2019ll certainly enjoy the series win, won\u2019t celebrate too much tonight. India are a fantastic side, great experience,” Marsh said.<\/p>\n

Leg-spinner Adam Zampa, named Player of the Match for his four-wicket haul, once again proved decisive in the middle overs.<\/p>\n

\u201cNice to beat India. It\u2019s always been a good battle against them, particularly in one-day cricket. Two teams that have adapted to the conditions really well. They\u2019re the best team in the world,” Zampa said.<\/p>\n

He credited Australia\u2019s pacers for setting up the platform: \u201cThose guys have been owning the power play for a long time\u2026 it makes my job easier through the middle.”<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I have been very grateful and lucky. And then you\u2019ve got the guys coming in, Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, doing their thing through the middle. It makes my job a lot easier through the middle. The beauty of Mitch (Marsh) is that he\u2019s chilled, relaxed, never too emotional. We run our own show out there with the ball,” he added.<\/p>\n
