A fitness enthusiast called a woman\u2019s lower belly \u201ca blessing,\u201d but a gynaecologist says his explanation about the uterus was anatomically wrong.<\/h2>\n

Women are, at times, criticised for their bodies and how they look online. Amid all this, a recent video caught attention where a fitness enthusiast tried to reassure a friend about her belly, calling it a \u201cblessing.”<\/p>\n

Lily, founder of The Night Club and athlete at Gymshark, shared the video showing a conversation she had with a male fitness buddy. She admitted feeling self-conscious about her lower belly, thinking it was fat. The man told her, \u201cIt\u2019s not a bump, it\u2019s a blessing.”<\/p>\n

He went on, \u201cIn front of your intestines is your uterus. It makes you feel like you are bloated. If you have food in your intestines, it pushes the uterus out more. You have less space here.”<\/p>\n

Gesturing to her belly, he added, \u201cIt\u2019s the most advanced and amazing part of the human body. You should not feel embarrassed about it. You should feel great about it.”<\/p>\n

The video has over 4.5 million views, and many praised the positivity. But the explanation about the uterus was medically incorrect.<\/p>\n

Uterus Isn\u2019t in Front Of the Intestines<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Karen Tang, a gynaecologist and social media educator, shared the video on her Instagram page and commented, \u201cLove the support, but anatomically, what he said isn\u2019t correct.” The uterus is located in the pelvic region, between the bladder and rectum, not in front of the intestines.<\/p>\n

Dr. Tang explained that a normal uterus is tiny, only a few centimetres larger than a testicle. It doesn\u2019t move with intestinal bloating, and the lower belly bulge comes from normal fat or bloated intestines, not the uterus. Gravity pulls things downward, so the belly looks fuller in the lower abdomen.<\/p>\n

Myths About Uterus Size<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Tang also warned that a large uterus could signal medical conditions such as:<\/p>\n

\u2013 Fibroids (non-cancerous tumours)<\/p>\n

\u2013 Adenomyosis (uterine lining growing into muscle)<\/p>\n

\u2013 Large ovarian cysts<\/p>\n

She noted that normalising lower belly bulges or mis-explaining anatomy could prevent women from recognising symptoms early.<\/p>\n

\u201cA patient might see this video, think everything is fine, and delay getting medical help,” she said in her video.<\/p>\n

\u201cInaccurate mansplaining, even if meant kindly, doesn\u2019t help and can hurt women,” Dr. Tang also stated. Early attention to pain, heavy periods, or pelvic issues is key to timely diagnosis.<\/p>\n
