WhatsApp online scams have become a major concern with many losing crores of money to the digital arrest attacks.<\/h2>\n

WhatsApp and other Meta apps are getting these useful safety tools<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

WhatsApp and Facebook online scams are finally getting some useful updates from Meta. We\u2019ve heard people being trapped in video calls for hours that allows the bad actors to steal important data as well as take money out of the accounts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So, the platform is getting further protection for such scams and allows people to make the decision about joining a call or at least warning them about a possible scam behind the screen. Meta is offering the security tools across its products but WhatsApp is the main target, even though you have Facebook being equally vital for many users.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

WhatsApp Online Scam Protection: How It Will Warn Users?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Meta says the WhatsApp warning will flash on the screen when you are about to share the screen with an unknown contact during a video call. You will be seeing a message pop-up like this:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The WhatsApp warning says, \u201cOnly share your screen with people you trust. They will be able to see anything you display on your screen, including sensitive details like your banking info. And it also assures that screen sharing is end-to-end encrypted and is never recorded by WhatsApp. We are not sure how WhatsApp is able to detect the video call going through but it seems to be using device ID and not the content to be alerted about a possible scam.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have seen people losing their hard-earned money because the bad actors were able to coerce\/deceive them into sharing confidential information and not even knowing the effects of doing it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These safety tools have become vital to help prevent making a mistake. UPI apps in India added their own version of warnings, especially when people are sending money and they know about it. The platform recently stopped supporting payment request features to stop bad actors from stealing money.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The scam alert for Messenger is broader than WhatsApp, possibly catering to older users. So, if you see a message from a random person on Messenger, the platform will first warn you about the chat being suspicious, asking you to send the message for AI review and then explain the possible ways of scamsters using these messages to steal data and other sensitive digital content.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n
