Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna\u2019s latest film Thamma has brought the festive spark back to the box office. The horror-comedy, which hit theatres on October 21, opened to an impressive start across India, marking one of the strongest day-one performances in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU).<\/p>\n

According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk (as of 9 p.m.), Thamma earned Rs 24.87 crore on its opening day. The Aditya Sarpotdar directorial saw a steady rise in collections through the day, fuelled by strong word of mouth and solid footfall during the evening shows.<\/p>\n

Occupancy Grows Through The Day<\/strong><\/p>\n

The film recorded an overall theatre occupancy of 32.83% across India, with morning shows at 15.76%, afternoon shows at 39.81%, and evening shows peaking at 42.91%. Chennai led with the highest occupancy at 53%, while the Telugu version clocked 18.37%.<\/p>\n

Despite a relatively slow start in the morning, Thamma picked up speed rapidly as positive reactions began circulating online. The mix of horror, comedy, and nostalgia \u2014 combined with Ayushmann Khurrana\u2019s comeback to theatres after over two years \u2014 seems to have drawn large crowds, especially in urban centres.<\/p>\n

Better Opening Than \u2018Bhediya\u2019, \u2018Stree\u2019 And \u2018Munjya\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

With Rs 24.87 crore, Thamma has outperformed the opening-day numbers of previous MHCU films \u2014 Bhediya (Rs 7.48 crore), Stree (Rs 6.82 crore), and Munjya (Rs 4 crore). The film\u2019s strong debut suggests that audiences continue to show up for Maddock\u2019s unique horror-comedy blend.<\/p>\n

The only competition Thamma faced on its release day was from Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, which managed Rs 2.85 crore \u2014 nowhere close to the Ayushmann-Rashmika starrer.<\/p>\n

Star Power And Word Of Mouth Drive The Film<\/strong><\/p>\n

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and produced by Maddock Films, Thamma also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles. The strong opening signals renewed interest in Hindi horror-comedies, a genre that Maddock continues to expand and refine.<\/p>\n

Thamma Review<\/strong><\/p>\n

News18 Showsha gave Thamma 3 stars. An excerpt from the review reads, \u201cThamma was capable of so much more. This is the first time that a mainstream Hindi film is exploring the myths surrounding vampires. Yes, there\u2019s masala, loads of it. But MHCU\u2019s earlier films had raised our expectations so high that by the end of Thamma, you\u2019ll be left feeling high and dry. There was ample room for experimentation and there was so much potential to push boundaries and dare more. But ultimately, the storytelling remains curiously restrained and gets reduced to just another horror-comedy with tropes that arrive on cue.”<\/p>\n

If the weekend trend holds, Thamma could set a new benchmark for the franchise \u2014 and for Ayushmann Khurrana\u2019s box office streak.<\/p>\n
