Arattai app from Zoho is banking on the made in India hype and looking to give the might of WhatsApp a tough challenge. It has garnered millions of downloads in quick time and raced up the App Store charts in the country. But the messaging platform needs some serious upgrades, including end-to-end encryption for messages, which is currently limited to video and voice calls.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But Zoho chief Sridhar Vembu has confirmed the company is working on bringing E2E security for messages very soon. While the Arattai app has no dearth of features<\/a>, in fact has more than what you get on WhatsApp, E2E standards for chats are missing and needs to be upgraded at the earliest.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

End-To-End Encryption On Arattai For Chats: What To Expect<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Vembu has been active on social media in the last few weeks, and once again, he confirmed that Arattai will be getting E2E standards for chats that will give better privacy to users.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One user on X even asked Vembu about the use of Signal\u2019s Encryption Protocol (which is heavily audited), and Vembu confirmed that is what they (Arattai app) are using and it is being internally tested as we speak.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Arattai app has been heavily marketed by the government officials, pitching it as the made-in-India messaging app alternative to WhatsApp. But the local platform is still lacking in features, something that we highlighted in our comparison piece earlier<\/a> this month. <\/span><\/p>\n

The app does have a feature called Secret Chat but it is not a direct alternative to E2E security, and not enabled by default which leaves your chats vulnerable and easy to intercept.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Zoho chief also assured that other features like storing data on the cloud, or locally save on the phone will be available on the Arattai app soon, and other cloud sync access for contacts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Not Using Your Data For Ads<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The other big promise from Vembu is that Arattai will never use your data to show ads or share the data with third-party companies. <\/span><\/p>\n

WhatsApp has slowly gone down the dreaded path, courtesy Meta, and by the end of 2025, all the Meta AI data is going to be harvested for pushing ads on Instagram and other apps. Which is why the case for apps like Arattai is strong but it needs more than the local (and government) support to succeed with features that are useful, secure and reliable. <\/span><\/p>\n
