The BJP has never before contested the same or larger number of assembly seats in its alliance with the Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) in Bihar. But, that is set to change in the upcoming election.<\/span><\/p>\n

Veering away from the \u201cbig brother, small brother” notion in the JD(U)-BJP relationship, both the parties will contest an equal number of seats<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 101 each \u2014 in the Bihar assembly elections, which will be held in two phases on November 6 and 11.<\/span><\/p>\n

The BJP is calling this a \u201cpractice in parity” rather than \u201cpressure politics”, with other NDA allies also getting a \u201clogical” share of the seat-sharing pie.<\/span><\/p>\n

A senior BJP leader said this <\/span>challenges the old \u201cbig brother, small brother” dynamic and establishes parity. <\/span>Another senior party leader described the NDA seat-sharing arrangement as a \u201cwell-balanced and wise decision”, stressing that it reflects mutual agreement rather than pressure politics.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe BJP and JD(U) have an equal role, and the seat distribution among the other parties also is logical,” the senior BJP leader told News18<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the first time, the Chirag Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party (LJP-Ram Vilas) is contesting as part of the complete NDA. This time, it is contesting on 29 seats, suggesting that mutual agreement has prevailed over pressure politics.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2020, it had broken away from the main alliance and independently contested at least 135 seats. <\/span>In 2015, the LJP contested 42 seats when the JD(U) was not part of the NDA and, in 2010, it contested 75 in alliance with the opposition RJD.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHence, there is no element of pressure politics \u2014 rather, mutual agreement has prevailed,” the BJP leader said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jitan Ram Manjhi of Hidustani Awam Morcha (HAM), whose cryptic comments on social media a few days ago triggered speculation that \u201call is not well” in the NDA, had previously contested seven seats. This time, he has been allotted six seats but this time but has gained a bigger share within the NDA.<\/span><\/p>\n

Manjhi now has one Lok Sabha MP, one Union minister, and six assembly seats indicating his increased stature within the NDA.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis was not the case earlier, so his stature within the NDA has grown,” a BJP leader said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another BJP leader suggested that Upendra Kushwaha of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) \u2014 currently in the Rajya Sabha \u2014 may become a Union minister in future. Hence, he has also been allotted six assembly seats.<\/span><\/p>\n

All NDA allies have publicly welcomed the seat-sharing arrangement, reflecting cordiality in the ruling alliance that is quite in contrast to the opposition Mahagathbandhan.<\/span><\/p>\n

The INDIA bloc is yet to declare its seat-sharing arrangement, with differences persisting between the principal opposition parties \u2014 the Congress and RJD. Lalu Prasad Yadav wants the Congress to contest no more than 54 seats and insists on an official declaration for\u00a0 Tejashwi Yadav as the chief ministerial candidate.<\/span><\/p>\n
