Despite protests in Parliament, opposition parties haven’t objected to the Election Commission’s draft electoral rolls for Bihar, published on August 1.<\/h2>\n

As deadlock in Parliament continues in the ongoing monsoon session, opposition parties have not officially objected to the Election Commission of India\u2019s draft electoral rolls for Bihar.<\/p>\n

The poll on August 1 released draft electoral rolls, following the completion of the month-long Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar, where elections are due later this year.<\/p>\n

From 1 August 2025 (3 PM) till 4 August (3 PM), no booth-level agent appointed by the parties has approached poll authorities in the claims and objections procedure, the EC said.<\/p>\n

Not just opposition, the parties in the ruling alliance, the BJP, Janata Dal (U), and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), have not submitted any objections to the EC.<\/p>\n

As many as 1,927 electors have directly filed claims and objections to draft electoral rolls.<\/p>\n

Oppn Protests in Parliament Against SIR<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Opposition parties, including Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), are protesting against the SIR. The opposition has been demanding a discussion on the SIR exercise initiated by the Election Commission in Bihar ahead of the state polls due later this year.<\/p>\n

This is the third week when the House proceedings have been disrupted by sloganeering by opposition members, he said before adjourning the House for the day.<\/p>\n

Barring discussions on Operation Sindoor in both Houses, Parliament has seen little business since the Monsoon session began on July 21 due to repeated adjournments. This was initially due to the opposition demanding a discussion on Operation Sindoor and then the SIR in Bihar.<\/p>\n

EC Publishes Draft Electoral Rolls<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On August 1, the Election Commission (EC) published the draft electoral rolls for Bihar.<\/p>\n

No compiled list was made available, but voters can check their names on the EC\u2019s website. There were 7.93 crore registered voters in the state before the SIR began in June, according to the EC.<\/p>\n

The publication of the draft rolls also kicked off the process of \u201cclaims and objections”, which would continue till September 1, and during the period, voters with complaints of wrongful deletion of names can approach the authorities concerned seeking a remedy.<\/p>\n
