The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has set its sights on West Bengal as it prepares for the state assembly elections next year. The party, which had a modest presence with just three MLAs in 2016, saw significant growth in the last assembly polls.<\/p>\n

As the state gears up for the elections, the BJP is deploying a fresh strategy that focuses on local issues. The campaign will be tailored to address specific regional concerns, with ground-level feedback playing a crucial role in shaping the party\u2019s narrative, sources told CNN-News 18.<\/p>\n

Senior BJP leaders have decided that the campaign will not target individual political figures directly. Instead, it will highlight corruption and law-and-order failures by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.<\/p>\n

The BJP is also making a concerted effort to reconnect with its core workers who have remained loyal during difficult times, sources said. This reconnect will focus on party workers and their families who have endured atrocities, including brutal crimes against women. The party aims to reassure these families of their support and commitment to challenge Mamta Banerjee\u2019s administration, which they believe lacks decency.<\/p>\n

Ticket distribution will be based on grassroots assessments, with an intensified engagement at the booth level in the coming weeks. The campaign\u2019s overarching theme, \u201cBengal First, Bengali First,” will celebrate the state\u2019s culture, traditions, and pride. It will also promote the concept of a \u2018double-engine government\u2019 to particularly appeal to women and youth voters, sources revealed to News18.<\/p>\n

In constituencies with significant minority populations, the BJP will adopt a different strategy. Instead of getting bogged down by the 83 seats with sizable Muslim populations, the focus will be on building momentum against the TMC from its strongholds. Special attention will be given to South 24 Parganas and Kolkata, the home turf of several senior TMC leaders, according to a senior party official.<\/p>\n

Recently, the BJP appointed election in-charges for the state polls next year. Union Minister for Environment Bhupendra Yadav is the election in-charge, with Biplab Deb, former Chief Minister of Tripura and current Member of Parliament, serving as his deputy. The party also appointed a new state president, Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya.<\/p>\n

The appointment of Biplab Deb as BJP\u2019s in-charge for Bengal polls is of great importance, given that he is Bengali. The BJP plans to encourage more leaders who are familiar with the region and its language to strengthen grassroots connections in the lead-up to the election.<\/p>\n

The BJP\u2019s strategic changes reflect its determination to make substantial gains in the West Bengal assembly elections, aiming to highlight local issues and reconnect with its core supporters while challenging the incumbent TMC government.<\/p>\n
