Three decades after Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge first hit theatres, the love story of Raj and Simran continues to define romance for generations of film lovers. As the Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol-starrer celebrates 30 years today, Kajol reflects on the film\u2019s timeless legacy \u2014 and says the emotion she feels isn\u2019t pride, but deep gratitude.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am truly humbled by it”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Calling DDLJ a once-in-a-lifetime experience, Kajol said in a chat with Hindustan Times, \u201cIt\u2019s not pride that comes into me at all. I am truly humbled by it.”<\/p>\n

The actor, who played Simran in Aditya Chopra\u2019s directorial debut, adds that no one involved in the film expected it to become what it did. \u201cWe never thought hum ye legacy banake chodenge when we made this film. We just thought we were making a good film and I am humbled by the fact that these many people and fans have made it so much bigger. They even continue to make it bigger than anything will ever be, almost in the sense that they\u2019ve made it a tradition.”<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve made it their own love story”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kajol shares that fans across generations have connected to DDLJ in deeply personal ways. \u201cI have had people come up to me and say, \u2018We fell in love while watching DDLJ and when we had kids, we made them sit and watch it with us because we wanted to share that experience with them\u2019. So, now they have given it to their kids like a part of their parents\u2019 love story. They\u2019ve intertwined it with their lives. That\u2019s not something that I can take credit for and say that ye meri wajah se hua hai, not at all.”<\/p>\n

A timeless legacy<\/strong><\/p>\n

Released in 1995, DDLJ became a cultural milestone that redefined Hindi cinema\u2019s idea of love. Directed by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, it remains one of Bollywood\u2019s longest-running films and continues to play daily at Mumbai\u2019s Maratha Mandir theatre.<\/p>\n
