On this day, sisters pray for their brothers\u2019 long life and well-being by applying a sacred tilak on their foreheads and offering them food.<\/p>\n<p id=\"2\" class=\"story_para_2\">Traditionally, brothers are expected to visit their sisters\u2019 homes and enjoy a meal with them.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Is It Called \u2018Yama Dwitiya\u2019?<\/h2>\n<p id=\"4\" class=\"story_para_4\">Bhai Dooj is also referred to as <em>Yama Dwitiya<\/em>, meaning the second day of Yamaraj, the god of death. According to legend, on this day, Yamraj visited his sister Yamuna, who warmly welcomed him, performed a <em>tilak<\/em> ceremony, and served him a meal.
