The Women\u2019s World Cup clash between New Zealand and Pakistan was abandoned on Saturday, October 18, because of incessant rain, confirming South Africa\u2019s spot in the semifinals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Persistent showers interrupted play twice, permitting only 25 overs of action. Put in to bat, Pakistan reached 92\/5 before rain washed out the contest. It was the fourth game to end without a result at this venue in the island nation\u2019s capital, after the abandoned games between Sri Lanka and Australia, Sri Lanka and New Zealand and England and Pakistan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both Pakistan and New Zealand have now seen their last two games rained off. The result lifted South Africa into the semifinals as the second side to qualify after Australia. New Zealand remain fifth, while Pakistan stay bottom and are out of contention.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier, the game had already been reduced to 46 overs a side after a long afternoon delay, with Pakistan 52\/3 in 12.2 overs when play first stopped. When play resumed at 5:35 pm local time, Pakistan lost two more wickets before the heavens opened again.<\/span><\/p>\n

Star New Zealand pacer Lea <\/span>Tahuhu<\/span> led the White Ferns\u2019 bowling effort with figures of 2\/20 from six overs. Medium-pacer Jess Kerr, Amelia Kerr and Eden Carson chipped in with a wicket each.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pakistan began brightly through openers <\/span>Muneeba<\/span> Ali (22) and <\/span>Omaima<\/span> Sohail<\/span> (3), adding 30 for the first wicket. But <\/span>Tahuhu<\/span> trapped the latter LBW<\/span>\u00a0in the seventh over to trigger another familiar collapse.<\/span><\/p>\n

Muneeba\u2019s<\/span> promising innings ended when Suzie Bates pulled off a sharp diving catch at short midwicket off Jess. Sidra Amin (9) was next to go, caught by Carson at point just before a prolonged rain break.<\/span><\/p>\n

When play resumed, captain Fatima Sana fell to Amelia and by the time rain returned for good, Pakistan were tottering at 92\/5 with <\/span>Aaliya<\/span> Riaz on 28*.<\/span><\/p>\n
